It didn’t take Disney / Lucasfilm long to replace the axed Colin Trevorrow from directing duties on STAR WARS: EPISODE 9, with JJ Abrams duly hired to take over the reigns.
The news started fans questioning which direction the director would take the franchise with some thinking THE FORCE AWAKENS was too close to A NEW HOPE’S story for their tastes while others loved how he breathed life back into the galaxy far far away. Abrams recently spoke to the BBC about his plans for the movie.
“Well, it’s certainly something that I’m aware of now working on ‘Episode IX’ — coming back into this world after having done ‘Episode VII.’ I feel like we need to approach this with the same excitement that we had when we were kids, loving what these movies were. At the same time, we have to take them places that they haven’t gone, and that’s sort of our responsibility. It’s a strange thing – Michael’s worked on things like ‘Planet of the Apes’ and ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Star Wars,’ and these are the things of dreams. Yet we can’t just revel in that; we have to go elsewhere.”
So where could elsewhere be? New worlds to explore, different terrains, new mythologies? Will they be travelling to Porg-land to see them face off against the First Order and smash AT-STs with nearby trees (We hope not!). Let us know your thoughts below. Is it good to have JJ back?
