Say it ain’t so! Well, it seems that the Xenomorphs in Ridley Scott’s ALIEN: COVENANT may well be the last ones to grace the silver screen (for the time being we think*…) according to the South Shields born director. In an interview with THR Scott had the following to say:

“I think the beast has almost run out, personally. You’ve got to come in with something else. You’ve got to replace that. And so I was right, I was ahead of the game.”

This isn’t the first time that Scott has discussed moving on with the ALIEN franchise by taking it in a different direction as last month he teased that artificial intelligence may be the way forward:

“I think the evolution of the Alien himself is nearly over, but what I was trying to do was transcend and move to another story, which would be taken over by A.I.’s. The world that the AI might create as a leader if he finds himself onto a new planet. We have actually quite a big layout for the next one.”

There’s arguably so much to still mine from the ALIEN universe and whether we like it or not the franchise will continue to run until we stop paying cash to see the films. What do you think, should Scott stick to everyone’s favourite chest-bursting beastie to move the series forward or is it time to hang up it’s double set of gnashers? Strike back in the comments!

*Will there really be no more action for one of cinema’s most marketable creatures? We don’t think so but let’s just hope it doesn’t feature in any more awful ALIEN VS PREDATOR flicks!
