It seems to have been stuck in development hell for a while now and when SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY writer Jonathan Kasdan was brought on board to write the fifth installment in the INDIANA JONES franchise it seemed to be back on track. Even Steven Spielberg himself stated a little while back that filming was due to start on the new film for a 2020 release only for the studio to backtrack and stall the production. Part of us here at SMTM are desperate to see a return to form for what is one of the best loved franchises in movie history, while the sensible part of our collective brains are saying ‘no thanks, hang that fedora and whip up Indy mate, don’t you remember the awful CRYSTAL SKULL with its stupid CGI gopher, Shia LaBeouf swinging with badly rendered CGI monkeys and that fridge being NUKED???’.
That being said though, Harrison Ford still has it in him to produce the goods for a final outing (his HAN SOLO return in THE FORCE AWAKENS wasn’t too long ago and he was ace!) and if they can get the story right it can be great, right? Well, herein lies the problem. KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL Writer David Koepp is back to have a crack at the story, however his recent quotes don’t inspire confidence that they can get it right this time?:
“I’m working on it again,” Koepp said. “We’re still trying. And I think we’ve got a good idea this time. We’ll see.”
We’re still trying? Well try harder chaps, Indy deserves a rousing send-off! Or does he? What do you guys think; is there life left in the franchise or should it be nuked like that damn fridge?
